Born in Yokohama in 1952, graduated from Keio University’s Department of Aesthetics and Art History in 1976, and after completing a master’s thesis at Keio University in 1976 and started to work as a curator at the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura. The commissioner for the 6th and 8th Bangladesh Asian Art Biennale in 1993 and 1997. In 2004 commissioner of the 26th São Paulo Biennale. Director of 2004 Yokohama Triennale 2008 “Time Crevasse”. Director of the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama from 2011 to 2024. Published books: Even at The End of The World, Schicho-sha, 1989; Egon Schiele : The Pain of The Gaze, Tokyo-bijutsu, 2023 etc.; Augenstämme: Ikuko Miyazaki’s Works, Miyazaki Ikuko Krumau Project, 2013(Edited book); Scattered Centers, Shunju-sha, 1995 (Coedited book with Kijuro Yahagi), Modernis / Nationalism, Serika-shobo, 2003(Coedited with Toshiharu Omuka) etc.
